Who We Are

Archaeo-Environment (AE) was established in 2003 by Caroline Hardie. The founding philosophy of AE was to provide a holistic specialist service for the historic environment encompassing buried archaeological deposits, historic upstanding buildings, the characterisation of historic settlements and landscapes, and setting studies all achieved through research, planning and public engagement; an approach now enshrined in the National Planning Policy Framework (2012). She was joined by AE’s co-director Niall Hammond in 2008. Niall’s experience also covered all aspects of the historic environment and so his portfolio of work suited the holistic approach of the business perfectly.
